Sign Language

Emily uses screaming to get her point across. It really grates on your nerves. The girl has some major volume. I was asking some ladies from church to pray that we would be able to figure out how to get her to stop doing it. One of the ladies prayed that night that Emily would find a different way to communicate and the next day I was out to lunch with a girlfriend of mine and she suggested that we try some sign language. I thought that was a great idea and perhaps an answer to the prayers from the night before so I headed to the library after lunch to get a book on baby signing. She isn't really consistent, but she sure gets a kick out of all of the rest of us doing different signs to try to figure out what it is that she wants! The book also said that some babies come up with their own signs. I had to laugh when I walked in to the kitchen the other day.

Tell me, do you think this means "I'm Thirsty"?

A day in the life of Emily

Emily is adjusting well to walking with shoes on and has been much more willing to explore the back yard now that the bottoms of her feet don't have to touch the grass or the dirt or the driveway. And now that our driveway is paved (have before and after pics for another post) she is much more steady on her feet, so new adventures have been on the agenda for her when we are playing outside!

Oooo, dirt...wonder how that tastes?

Humm, not as good as I thought it would be

Telling some story, you can be sure. Someday soon I will get a video of her gibberish on here. It is adorable!

The dirt was a disappointment, maybe this rock will be better?

Kelli's First Day of Preschool!

Kelli started Preschool this week!! She seems so big and grown up with her backpack on! She goes to the preschool at the YMCA on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9am to 1030. It is super nice because I have my aerobics class from 9-1015 right across the hall! She is having a good time and is excited to be going to school like her big brother! She just wishes it was at the same school!

Beautiful Friendship

One of the many things I have learned as a grownup woman/mom is that there is just nothing quite like a good girlfriend, and I am so thankful that God has blessed me with some soul mate quality girlfriends!

You have heard me talk about sweet Elise before. How wonderful to have a friendship that lasts across the globe, and I think has even grown as we have been apart....and what a celebration we will have when she returns home for a few months later this year!!! =) When I said goodbye to Elise the night before she left, I cried harder than I ever remember crying in my life! I could hardly breathe as I drove away from her (tears are filling my eyes as I remember this night!) and then when I got home I collapsed on the couch with heaving sobs! My poor sweet husband...He came over to the couch and put his hand on my back and said, "Sweetheart, you need to calm down. Elise is moving, not dying. You will see her again." He was right, but Elise and I had probably not had many days that had passed that we didn't spend at least a few minutes together and if we didn't see eachother, we almost certainly talked on the phone. Elise was the first friend that I had that really was a true, unconditional friend. There was no pretense with Elise. She was real and was the first friend that I felt I could be 100% myself with. I didn't have to think about what I did or said, I knew that we were friends no matter what. She encourages you, just by being with you. She challenges you without even knowing it and has a heart for others and for Jesus that I desire. She is a friend like I never imagined I would have. So to me this river of tears was totally appropriate. I really was mourning this "loss". How in the world would I survive without her.

Well, funny thing, there was another gal who was grieving this same loss. This gal was a friend of Elise's that I had known as an acquaintance, and we had gotten to know each other a little more in the months before Elise left, as neither of us wanted to leave Elise's side! After Elise left that other greiving gal and I have developed a beautiful friendship. Alysia and I would both agree that our friendships with Elise could never, ever be replaced, we both have been surprised that our friendship runs as deep. And the great thing...the common bond that brought us together is Elise...so this friendship is a gift that she gave us that perhaps wouldn't have been if she hadn't followed the Lords leading to Africa!

Elise and Alysia...I love you girls! And I am SO thankful for what you add to my life!

Here is a pic of Alysia I grabbed this week when she came to show me her new haircut!

Pray for Masen

Update: Praise God...the surgery has been moved up to Sept 29th!

One of my dear friends in college, Tiffany, and I recently reconnected on Facebook (my new addiction). On Facebook you can put your status...Kori is _____________. Today Tiffany's status was "Tiffany's heart is heavy today". I inquired as to why her heart is heavy to find that her almost 6 year old daughter (pictured below with her brother Josh) has a cochlear implant and that implant failed yesterday and she is completely deaf with out it. She will have to have surgery to remove the broken part and replace it, but will not be able to have the surgery until late October at the earliest. Pray for this sweet girl who has lost her hearing again in a moment and pray for her family to as they cope with having to brush up on their sign language. And take a moment to thank the Lord for things that we often take for granted, like our hearing.

I love my grandpa!!

I am so thankful that my Grandpa Cronk lives close enough that if I want to go see him, I can make a day of it! I only wish I did that more often! Well this past Saturday Lauren and drove up there to spend the day with him and we had a wonderful time! It is hard for me to believe that he is over 90 years old!! He has so much energy and such a positive outlook on life and is able to laugh at himself as he ages and I think that his attitude has a large influence on why he has lived so long! After spending some good time chatting with him I gave him a quick haircut, trimmed his bushy eyebrows and the three of us went out to lunch. It was a wonderful day and I am glad to have a few photos to remember it! I plan on doing this with much more regularity!!

Such a big boy!

We live really close to Andrew's school and he really wanted to walk to and from school by himself last year and I said absolutely not...you are too young, maybe when you are in 1st grade. Well of course he remembered that and after much conversation we decided that Tuesday we would meet half way and if that went well he could come home on his own Wednesday. I sat on the porch trying to be relaxed, but was a nervous wreck and looked at my watch 100 times as I anxiously waited his arrival. He was very exasperated by me catching the whole arrival in pictures, but I was really proud of this small step of independence that he made!

First Day of School

Andrew started 1st grade today! If you remember from last years first day of school post, the morning was rather emotionally charged. Andrew crying and clinging to Brian's leg and me, 2 weeks postpartum and bawling in the hallway. Thank goodness Brian took the morning off of work to help me with the transition! Well today Andrew and I managed all on our own and neither of us shed a tear! I will admit I got a little choked up on the way home (there is just something that tugs on those heartstrings when you walk away from a little boy who is so trying to be a big grown up boy), but overall it was a smooth transition from summer break back into the school year! Andrew is so excited because he has the teacher he wanted and he has at least 5 kids from his class last year in his class and there are also 2 kids from our church in his class as well and they sit at his table!! We are excited about another great school year!! Here are the standard first day of school shots! And it was sweet...I was letting Emily sleep a little (Lauren graciously came to watch the girls so I could get Andrew to school without having to tote them along) and Andrew was heartbroken that he didn't get to say goodbye to her and have a picture taken with her as well! So of course I woke her up...want to encourage that sibling love as long as I can!
